Why it matters
What is wrong with keeping code in functions.php or a Code Snippets plugin?
Nothing, for one or two small tweaks. The trouble starts as the list grows: a functions.php full of unrelated logic breaks the moment you switch themes, a Code Snippets library with twenty entries has no version control and no tests, and snippets an AI wrote one prompt at a time were never checked against each other for conflicts. We read every snippet, work out what each one actually does, remove the duplicates, and rebuild the rest as one plugin with a name, a version number and a changelog.
- Every snippet audited for what it actually does, not just what the comment says
- Duplicate and conflicting logic removed
- Rebuilt with nonces, capability checks and escaping where the original had none
- One plugin, one version number, activated independently of your theme
- Tested on staging against your live plugins before it replaces the originals
The honest comparison
functions.php or Code Snippets, or one custom plugin?
For one or two small tweaks, a snippets plugin is still a fine, fast choice. It stops being fine once you cannot remember what half the entries do.
functions.php or Code Snippets | One custom plugin | |
|---|---|---|
| Fine for one or two small tweaks | Overkill for just that | |
| Survives a theme change | functions.php: no | Yes, plugin-independent |
| Version history and rollback | Yes, in your repository | |
| Checked for conflicts between snippets | Rarely | Audited before rebuild |
| Security checks (nonces, escaping, capability checks) | Usually missing on older or AI-written snippets | Added during the rebuild |
| Easy to hand to another developer | Hard, logic is scattered | One file, one changelog |
How it works
How do you turn a pile of snippets into a plugin?
Send us what you have
Export your Code Snippets library, or send the relevant part of functions.php. A senior engineer reads every enquiry, usually the same day Monday to Friday.
Get an audit and a fixed price
We tell you what each snippet does, what is missing (security checks, mostly) and what it costs to rebuild, within 48 hours.
We rebuild it as one plugin
Consolidated, deduplicated, secured and tested on a staging copy of your site.
Cut over and keep it updated
The new plugin replaces the old snippets in one step. A care plan can keep testing it against future WordPress and PHP releases.
What clients say
A partner for the ongoing work, not just the rebuild
Quick and helpful support The supporters, i.e Manuzza Zaidi, have been very helpful and provided some css code even for other plugins.
